So today I finally got my hands on the new sleek and stylish Apple Keyboard which now ships with the new iMac computers, but it is also sold separately. I thought it is time to give up the original G5 keyboard, because I couldn’t really type very well on it, it was loud, and old anyways. So the new keyboard has an aluminum finish as we all know, and comes in at 49 Euro.
And as it is a ritual for all new Apple products that one buys, I put up the unboxing pics! Yay!

It says: Requires Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later, and a free USB 1.1 or 2.0 port

It even comes with a USB extension cable. But no driver CD.

The new keyboard is hooked up to my good ol’ G5. Let me tell ya: It is absolutely amazing to type on it! If you have a MacBook, then you know how it feels. And it’s sooooo much quieter, too. Apple, thanks again.
There are new dedicated keys:
- F1/F2 – Brightness up or down
- F3 – Expose
- F4 – Dashboard
- F7 – Back to beginning of track or one track back
- F8 – Play / Pause track in iTunes
- F9 – Next track
- F10 – Mute speakers
- F11 – Volume down
- F12 – Volume up
To get the new dedicated keys to work, connect the keyboard and go straight to Software Update. A new option will appear, “Keyboard Software Update”. Download and install, then reboot your machine. The keys will then work.
The keyboard is just freakin’ cool. Really. And I know ‘cool’ =D .
