When there’s despair, hope comes in threes
May 24th
You know what they say. Three’s a charm. Or Three’s a crowd. Until two weeks ago I had no idea about the fact that there actually has been a sequel to the Anime phenomenon “Appleseed“. Yeap… sometimes I’m behind the times too.
If you don’t know it… man, then you missed something. Deunan Knute, a skilled warrior is one of the last survivors of World War III, which apparently started some time before 2131, and has once again transformed the world into a wasteland. When there was no place to go no more, they made one… Olympus. A mega city inside which man lives in co-existence with Bioroids. A genetically engineered type of human, who has certain emotions turned off, also they cannot have sex and therefore not reproduce. They were made as a solution to stabilize the otherwise unstable human society. When terrorists attack a mainframe in the city, Deunan is tasked with a very vital mission.
I really enjoyed the movie a lot, and incidentally I watched it again recently. So as I was looking for something else I became aware of the existence of a sequel to this anime hit, and I got my hands on it.
It’s “Appleseed: Ex Machina”. Set two years after the original Appleseed incident, the terrorists now have gained a new way to get their way. Well they didn’t exactly foresee that Deunan is still in town, and so are her friends. The city is once again turned into warzone, people become zombies and the terrorists want to wipe out Bioroids once and for all.
The animation is incredible, the cast looks MUCH HOTTER than in the original, and once again a good story to dive in to, if you enjoyed the first one. Trust me, you will not regret this one.
It was good enough – again – for me to buy the actual DVD with all the extras.
8 Years in Ireland today… Life’s still a ride
May 20th
I can’t write much these days on my blog, I’m pretty busy with a lot of things. Most of which is the job search. Gotta find something soon… So on a side note, if you are in Dublin and have vacancies in the IT field, I’d be happy to forward my CV to you. Or if you know something where I could find a job, let me know. But that just on a side note.
On May 20, 2001, which happened to be a Sunday, my life took a drastic turn into an all-new direction which would ultimately shape me into someone, the person I am today. A few weeks before that date, Xerox had done some phone interviews with me. At the time I was looking for a job and so I passed the interviews. They paid it all – flight, and relocation. Not only was that my first real job ever, it was also abroad and for a company that is known in the world. Regardless of the things that happened in there, it began to let me experience real life… I was 19 when I got there, after all. The hell of a 19-year-old wants to live life eh? Turns out I stayed with Xerox for four and a half years. I’m still friends with 2 people from in there, friends in intend to keep. While being in there, I also got to know my first girlfriend, learned the pains of love. Or something like it. I was young, what do you expect? To me it felt good anyways. I also saw a lot of Ireland during that time… I think the man with whom I did these trips turned out to be not clean. If you know what I mean. It’s just a rumor, I’m not sure. But if it’s true what I heard… O_O – well I won’t release details of the rumor.
I then changed to HP in Dublin. New job, new world, new life eh? The job there was really alright… I remember the one day when I wrote something in one of my other (now inactive) blogs, about how I felt and everything. It was kinda rational and all that. It had to do with how I met my first girlfriend, and then I found out that another girl I was talking to kinda liked me to and it hurt her seeing me and my first girlfriend coming together. I was devastated, I never knew. Anyways, the job there was pretty alright, and I also got to know my second girlfriend in there, and I won’t hold back on the name: Alex. You know what they say. Not all that glitters, is gold. The people who know me in real life will tell you that I’m a good person. I tried to help her. She was in the same situation than me, like just having arrived here and all. And in the end, what was I? Means to an end. Fuck you, Alex. You messed with my head like no one else, and I know what happened that weekend when you had 2 MEN visiting you and I didn’t hear a single word from you on that weekend. For 6 months you were playing games. I see you in hell, bitch. If you’re reading this, Alex, rest assured that these things won’t go unnoticed… The universe will find a way to pay you back for this. Some day. Eventually. We all pay for these kind of things. Ah yes, you Facebook-friended me and I checked on you. Got a kid eh? Don’t get me wrong. Bringing life into the world certainly is a good thing. However, and this is definitely the last thing I gonna address to you: I feel really sorry, deeply sorry, for the kid – cause it has YOU as a mother. Well this thing has definitely shaped me and left an eternal impression… I can only tell you that I started to feel love for her – before I found out what was happening.
After that… Microsoft. Oh boy. The Apple fan goes to Microsoft? Has the world gone mad? Maybe it has. But this person I was just addressing made me. Her dream was to work for Microsoft. She thought my talent is wasted in HP – fair enough. So I applied for other jobs. Microsoft called. I passed the interviews, got the job. To be fair the team was cool and all, my boss at the time was great. The boss after that too. Anyways I was gonna help her kick-start a career in Microsoft, like do a refer-a-friend shit, then leave. Well she left before that. And I was stuck with the company I hated the most. Well I couldn’t hide my Apple admiration for long and they didn’t like it. Things got ugly. Well. I too left.
I joined DoubleClick. Number 1 in the world for online advertising. Last and deciding interview I had was with the person who eventually adopted me as her Little Bruv =) If that’s not saying something about the things I experienced in here, I don’t know what will… I have gotten to know the best team the Sun has ever shined light on, made friends I gonna keep, and like I just said, created strong family ties. You know what they say eh? We make our families along the way. I’ll always remember the times we had in our little kitchen in the old office in Eastpoint, having so much fun. We were like a family. I can not tell you how great it was. Then we were bought by a search engine you might know. I am eternally thankful for my Big Sis at this stage, and thankful for having crossed paths with her. I am also thankful for the friends I made in here. The time of my end in here is soon coming. Which is why I need to find a job. My Big Sis and friends are there to support me, to help me… what a great feeling.
It’s been quite a roller coaster ride. 8 years and still rolling… In the end I think Bill Hicks is right. Life is just a ride. And you can change it anytime you want.
I guess I just keep on riding the roller coaster. See what’s up next.

So I’m still working on my little project in my spare time. Admittedly I haven’t done a lot in recent times on it, but since I got a bit tired of playing EVE night after night, I thought it is time to do something productive and get back to that. So I did some revisions on the code what is ultimately meant to be a desktop operating system, and the changes are quite interesting.
I figured out that there is a way to communicate between two different programs, meaning processes, as long as these processes share the same implementation of code. The solution for this is called GNUstep Distributed Objects or simply DO. There’s a little tool called gdomap which is given to you when you install the GNUstep environment, which can be opened at system boot time, making sure you always have it. It’s a little daemon inside which you can store GNUstep objects for others to access.
Using this approach, I can now create incredibly fast and lightweight code, while creating an API for others that makes it super-fast to create applications. You can change content of the menu bar with one line.
So as of the moment there are certain things implemented, very important for desktop handling:
lastGI – The laststep Graphical Interface (framework)
With this, you simply use any of the elements like button, progress bars etc., for your application. Very simple to use, allocated like normal Objective-C objects, and can be manipulated the same. However the framework is specific to the system and has modified implementations of existing components, LSWindow for example is a modified version of NSWindow with methods and functions to access the laststep specific menu bar.
MenuService.app – The menu bar
Very important system service. Graphical front-end which mainly holds the menu of the application that has focus, as well as little other elements such as a clock, or a system tray (haven’t figured this one out yet), as well as an icon for the app that currently has the focus. In LSWindow there is gonna be a method to display the right menu.
DesktopService.app – Uhm, Desktop?
Nothing fancy right now. Only a huge window as big as the screen, and does not much in the moment.
So as you can see, it is progressing… I’ll keep you posted.

What was that in the title? Well. Hard to explain. Just let me put it this way: for the epicness that is about to happen in this post, you should honor this man by actually buying a Slap Chop. Somehow I want one. You can chop all these things, in the title, apparently with this new kitchen helper.
Well let Vince explain.
You just love his nuts now, don’t you? Well I gonna make you love them even more by adding some magic to the whole thing.
The thing is 20 bucks.
