When there’s despair, hope comes in threes

You know what they say. Three’s a charm. Or Three’s a crowd. Until two weeks ago I had no idea about the fact that there actually has been a sequel to the Anime phenomenon “Appleseed“. Yeap… sometimes I’m behind the times too.

If you don’t know it… man, then you missed something. Deunan Knute, a skilled warrior is one of the last survivors of World War III, which apparently started some time before 2131, and has once again transformed the world into a wasteland. When there was no place to go no more, they made one… Olympus. A mega city inside which man lives in co-existence with Bioroids. A genetically engineered type of human, who has certain emotions turned off, also they cannot have sex and therefore not reproduce. They were made as a solution to stabilize the otherwise unstable human society. When terrorists attack a mainframe in the city, Deunan is tasked with a very vital mission.

I really enjoyed the movie a lot, and incidentally I watched it again recently. So as I was looking for something else I became aware of the existence of a sequel to this anime hit, and I got my hands on it.

It’s “Appleseed: Ex Machina”. Set two years after the original Appleseed incident, the terrorists now have gained a new way to get their way. Well they didn’t exactly foresee that Deunan is still in town, and so are her friends. The city is once again turned into warzone, people become zombies and the terrorists want to wipe out Bioroids once and for all.

The animation is incredible, the cast looks MUCH HOTTER than in the original, and once again a good story to dive in to, if you enjoyed the first one. Trust me, you will not regret this one.

It was good enough – again – for me to buy the actual DVD with all the extras.
