Noir – it is the name of an ancient fate…

- two maidens who govern death, peace of the newly born, their black hands protect.

Mireille Bouquet is a young, attractive woman, who lives in Paris. There are certain gaps in her mind, concerning her past. However what she does know is that she is pretty good at completing assassination tasks. She is very skilled in that profession and is yet to meet her match. Someday she receives a weird email from someone, and it only states “Let’s make a Pilgrimage to the past”. Intrigued, she meets this person. She appears a bit younger than Mireille, and does not know anything about herself. The only clue she has is an ID card, which says that her name is Kirika Yuumura. Probably a school girl, but is far more distressed about her past and is trying to find the truth. Mireille and Kirika agree on a pact – once it all becomes clear, Mireille is going to kill Kirika. And Kirika agrees whole-heartedly.

Without having checked Wikipedia or other sources, I believe the year is 1999 CAPTAIN’S BLOG, SUPPLEMENTAL (02/07/10) – The story takes place around 2009-2010. The world in fear about the coming millennium, many believe the end-times are upon us. As Mireille and Kirika set sail to find out the truth about Kirika’s past, they are endeavouring into a journey that has permanent effect on both lives, one way or the other. They learn about an apparently secretive group which only refer to themselves as The Soldats. There is also a mysterious book involved, apparently very old, and holds vital keys to background information of this secretive group as well as maybe both of their pasts.

Core Characters of Noir!
The core characters of the show, starting from top, clockwise: Altena, Chloe, Kirika Yuumura, Mireille Bouquet

Unlike most anime shows, this one actually names real world cities and countries. The main setting is France and Paris, but places like New York are mentioned, as well as Tokyo and Taiwan. Even Berlin is mentioned at some stage. I find this very interesting so I mention it here.

Set in a very real world with very realistic characters, and no super-powers of any character, “Noir!” will keep you at the edge of your seat. If you like X-Files and/or Millennium (both by Chris Carter), then you will enjoy this very much so – even if you’re not an anime fan. To me at stages the show had the same depth and mood as Millennium, The Soldats and The Millennium Group seem to be a very similar breed of people.

As the show progresses the plot gets incredibly deep. Again, there will be moments that you will witness in shock and awe. You’ll wonder what happens next, why happened what happened. And up until yesterday I have seen 22 of a possible 26 episodes, and the finale of the show just now.

And once again it has been an emotional finale… the book has closed amazingly on another fantastic story which surely is one not to be missed. It has been a ride for all people involved – mostly for you as the watcher of the events. I’m just amazed. Wow.

Bee Train and Victor Entertainment, the people behind “Madlax”, did a FANTASTIC job on this one. Again, the voice acting is top notch, the music does a lot to the show, again. No wonder if Yuki Kajiura composes a soundtrack. If she’s mixing it up, you can be certain that the music experience is unparalleled to any other. ESPECIALLY when she and anime come together… I tell you that much.

“Noir!” is the first of the three Girls-With-Guns shows by Bee Train and Victor Entertainment. If you liked Madlax like I did, then you have no choice as to watch this one.

US Air Force releases aircraft identification chart

In a stunning turn of events, I learned the USAF released a chart to correctly identify any kind of objects you may see in the sky.

Here it is.

Scientific proof of awesomeness pressure

Legend has it, that if too much awesomeness is compressed into one place in a location in space and time, weird things happen. Like the room where it happens will collapse. Or a strange twister of hyperspace shows up or something. At least they say that about Chuck Norris.

Now, I have put this theory to the test. I think the shelf was either pretty strong or the legend is false :D

Awesomeness particles beyond limit captain
The awesomeness particles are off the charts captain… what shall we do?

I’d say: Myth BUSTED! :D

Follow up to the “Evil” post I made – a real-life satire

After the post of some days ago (see overleaf for details), I have received a number of comments from certain people. 90% of the comments came from her fiance, 1 from her mother, and one, well, from herself. In the reply from herself she is wondering as to why I don’t make all those comments public…

Well, I shall grant your wish. =D

But I only do it, because I have been asked to, and also, because of the threats I have received from her fiance, should I show up at the next Q-Con in Belfast. I have forwarded the IP addresses and the email alias of him to the Royal Police for investigation.

Before I post these comments, I would like to make one thing VERY CLEAR.

1) My argument was never with either – her mother, or fiance.
2) Hitler was not a German (and in a world without Internet, you’d vote for the one who promises a better life, I guarantee you that much – you’ll see in a moment why I mention Hitler here)
3) Wordpress logs IP’s among other information. So think twice before commenting.
4) I did what I did because my feelings were hurt. What would you do?

and

5) Threats to my security over a public channel will go to the right departments. If I have to, to the corresponding local authority branch of the government.

Right then. Enjoy the show.

The person in question

So, why dont you publish all the comments we made? Could it possibley be that we have called you out on how bloody self-obsessed and stupid you are? Hitler was rather self-obsessed and didnt allow free speech either.. so I’m not surpirse.

Her mother

Hi Marcus remember me I am her Mum. If you think my daughter is evil, take a look at your own nations grandfathers and grandmothers as theirs are the true faces of evil!
Woof! Woof

Her fiance – just a selection

“And I’m glad so glad that I’m done with you”

we all know that you will never publish these comments here (typical…bloody germans where always about the curtailment of free speech…nazi bastards)

however, i must add that the song lyric above…pay attention…now piss off back to germany u grotty little streak of piss

sorry one more thing every dog does indeed have his day. im having mine right now!!!! it is indeed a fine day!!! oh, friendly advice my friend, dont use big words without having big balls to back them up with. things can go really bad if you do

im sorry i cant stop laughing at this!!! (in the james voice wich i pulled off rather well without having to study it it!!) 5 times i’ve read this and i find it sooooo damm funny!!!! if photos is you idea of revenge, well, i think you need help mate!! ah well, im away off line….i gots better things to be doing with my life, like being with her.

There are more… but, well, you get the picture.

double_facepalm

And that’ll be the end of it.

Again:
I post those because I was asked to and because I was threatened.

To round things off, here’s another song lyric that I think fits well.

The explosion of my tongue makes you shiver
Makes your heart go numb
You’re on the run
You faggot lost your flavour like an old piece of gum… yeah
It’s tragic, the fact when I damage
So you can’t manage to rap
Just manage to panic
Put the pen to the pad and see your
Talent vanish
Rambling whack shit, try to show you’re the baddest
While I sit back and relax go in full flow with attacks

Know you’re an act
Your style’s showing the cracks
For a fact you couldn’t spit this -

Privileged to witness

Scooter
Priviliged To Witness
Who’s Got The Last Laugh Now? ( <- This is the album's name)

And now for something completely different!

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Motoko is the ordinary school girl. She is no Einstein, but also not stupid. She is no super carpenter, but also not bad with her hands. She gets average grades in exams, sometimes good, sometimes bad. She’s living with the normal family, it all seems to be a good thing. Until one day, something out of the ordinary happens.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - Theatrical poster
“The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” – Theatrical Poster

And this something is not just “out of the ordinary”, it would border on the impossible. Yet, it happened. It is just around 4 PM that afternoon when Motoko is riding home on her bike. It’s downhill, so no need to waste energy and pedal. However, there’s a train crossing at the end of the downhill-streak. Just before the crossing, her brakes break – she is left with no mechanism to slow down her bike – and faces the inevitable as she sees the barriers of the crossing coming down. She hits the barrier, and – so it seems – the train has gotten her good.

It is in that moment that she discovers that apparently she possesses the power to travel back in time when she suddenly finds herself on the ground, having run into an elderly lady – and the clock is showing a time just before her fatal moment. The bike is with her on the ground.

As this causes questions, she is seeking advise from her aunt, who then, much to the surprise of Motoko, admits that many girls have been “Time-Leaping” before.

So she uses her new power to do things over and over… but does not realize what implications her actions have on herself, and others.

Remember this.
Not for Motoko, and not for you.

She is now puzzled about why she has this ability, and is about to undertake a life-changing journey, and about to find out the truth behind some things.

Another great story well told, I absolutely enjoyed this one. Don’t think about the scientific implications of time travel for a while, okay? It is a beautiful story nonetheless, I recommend it to anyone :)

Project laststep – where it’s at

In the last few weeks I have been working pretty hard on my project, which eventually is meant to become a FreeBSD based operating system, with all likelihood commercial in nature.

Recently the entire code base has crossed the 5,000 line mark, and it’s all working out nicely.

I can tell you that I have developed features that currently are not to be found in all modern operating systems, like Windows, Mac OS X or desktops on Linux (KDE, GNOME, etc).

I cannot tell you the specifics about it or post screenshots because I want to keep these features a little closer to my vest in the moment.

Rest assured that it is progressing nicely and I am now in the area of implementing file management features.

For now, you can have a look at the placeholder page I have put up at the domain for the project, laststep.eu.

For the technical people out there:
laststep is built upon a FreeBSD 7 core, which then has the GNUstep libraries and frameworks – upon which my code is built on. Some of the features use GNUstep quite extensively, while others built upon my own frameworks (which then in turn use GNUstep).

GNUstep is a cross-platform, object-oriented framework for desktop application development. Based on the Cocoa API (Formerly OpenStep) originally created by NeXT (now Apple), GNUstep enables developers to rapidly build sophisticated software by employing a large library of reusable software components. GNUstep is used in production environments at several organizations.
