My top five Anime moments (2010)

So as of 2010, here are my top five anime moments since I actively started to watch it. It’s been nearly two years now, so I think it’s time for a little recap.

Number 5:
Haruhi Suzumiya and ENOZ perform “God Knows…” and “Lost My Music”

You have got to admit that Haruhi is a girl that really enjoys life… I mean she really lives it the way she wants to, but what’s kinda strange is that whatever she wants, becomes reality. In other words, she can shape-shift the universe, unconsciously. She is however pretty oblivious of that fact. And, as it so happens, toward the end of the show (when watched chronologically), she has to act as stand-in singer for a band at a high-school festival. For me, a very great moment and really personifies Haruhi.

Number 4:
The Day The Demon Died (Code Geass R2 – Episode 25 – “Requiem”)

Knowing that he changed the world, and yet lost everything, he decided to end his life in a way that the world would remember. No matter what everyone thought of Lelouch/Zero, he would be remembered for someone who stood up for his ideals. He asked Suzaku to become the next Zero – and to end Lelouch’s life. A moment at which I cried bigtime – a very emotional finale for a superb show.

“I accept that Geass…”

Number 3:
The Tachikoma Sacrifice (Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig – Episode 26 – “Endless Gig”)

When a situation in the small town of Dejima escalates out of hand, it is decided to put the ultimate end to the rebellion – by detonating a nuclear bomb in that town. The Tachikomas were given a direct order, but disobey it – in order to stop the warhead. However in the process they destroy the satellite that holds their data, their intelligence, their humanity, their minds, their lives.

When I grow up, I want to be a Tachikoma.

Number 2:
The video tape of Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop – Episode 18 – “Speak Like A Child”)

When Faye receives a rather dubious package with a tape inside, the crew of the Bebop sets out to find an old video player to see what is on it. Eventually Spike and Jet are successful, and hook up the player to one of their screens. The tape shows a younger Faye, sending herself a message from a time now passed, with a message to herself. A scene that surely got to me, I cried. One of the most underrated scenes of all time.

And on Number 1:
Elenore’s confession and sacrifice (Madlax – Episode 24 – “Devoting Heart ~hearts~”)

To me personally, this is one of those moments you see on TV or in any kind of medium, that really leaves an imprint and sticks with you forever. To me this has been one of the most emotional moments I ever witnessed, and I couldn’t help myself but to cry a lot when I saw it. She shall rest in peace – and her confession will be in the hearts and minds of all Madlax fans.
