WordCamp 08. The Wordpress Conference.

My friend and housemate is currently organizing and setting up Europe’s first German speaking Wordpress conference in Hamburg, Germany. The conference aims to be of support for users and developers of the world’s most popular blogging software. Users can learn how to set it up, can learn tips and tricks for Wordpress, give and/or participate in workshops. Developers have the opportunity to show off their latest hacks for the blogging tool, or exchange ideas. Apart from that, it is also an opportunity for a get together of Wordpress users or people who want to become it.

One of the points that is scheduled to be addressed is politics in Germany and Wordpress. Contrary to what is already done mostly in the United States and also now in other countries, politicians do not use a blog in Germany. Technically Wordpress provides a powerful platform to talk directly to each individual a politician wants to reach, faster than on the news or newspapers, and people can read the articles in the privacy of their homes. For politics in general, Wordpress provides a very powerful communication platform. This is one of the points scheduled to be addressed.

Other points include ‘Widgeteria!’, at which users and developers can learn about and contribute to the Widgets that are available for the blogging platform, providing the possibility to personalize a blog to suit the needs one might have.

For the people that are more interested in the technical side of things can work out extensions, or create a workshop to explain how to use Wordpress entirely as a CMS.

These are some of the points to be addressed in next year’s Wordcamp ‘08.

The conference is scheduled for the weekend of January 26 / 27 2008. If you want to participate, you are required to deposit a one-time fee of 20 Euro for the entire weekend.

Head over to the official Wordcamp 08 site to learn more. The site is in German though.
